The Geshe Lhundub Sopa Memorial Fund was created in order to commemorate the life, and to preserve and develop for future generations, the spiritual legacy of our precious founder, Geshe Lhundub Sopa Rinpoche.
Donations to the Fund will be dedicated to projects honoring the memory of Geshe Lhundub Sopa Rinpoche including establishing permanent on-site memorials of his exemplary life and legacy as the founder and Abbot of Deer Park Buddhist Center. These memorials will include statues, holy imagery, paintings, and monuments and support for all future endeavors.
Following the traditional Tibetan Buddhist monastic customs, after the passing of an important teacher or spiritual founder, a permanent commemorative stupa or dhung dhen and a likeness statue of the person, are commissioned and constructed. (A “stupa” is Buddhist monument representing the enlightened mind of the Buddha.) The commemorative stupa and life size statue of Venerable Geshe Lhundub Sopa will encase the remains of the precious teacher’s holy relics from the cremation ceremony. Upon completion, these holy monuments will be permanently placed in the New Temple at Deer Park Buddhist Center.
The goal and purpose of establishing these monuments is to serve as a reminder of our beloved guru and his precious teachings. The monuments will also commemorate Geshe Lhundub Sopa Rinpoche’s exemplary life as a humble Buddhist monk, an academic scholar, and a pioneer in the establishment of Tibetan Buddhism here in the West.
The reliquary stupa, statue and other future works will serve as a lasting testimony and inspiration to the many Dharma students that are on the Buddhist spiritual path and will serve as monuments to the historical achievements of our beloved and precious teacher. They will also serve as a source of inspiration to the many faithful Dharma students of Geshe Lhundub Sopa Rinpoche from around the world, and for future visitors to Deer Park Buddhist Center.
The Geshe Lhundub Sopa Memorial Fund needs the on going support to ensure that Geshe Lhundub Sopa’s extraordinary life and accomplishments are appropriately preserved and continued for future generations.
